Veterans On Duty condemns the ongoing wave of terrorist attacks against Israel from Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. Once again, we are seeing harrowing videos of Israeli civilians running to bomb shelters with air raid sirens blaring in the background. And once again, this Iran-backed terrorist proxy is indiscriminately targeting Israeli cities and civilians with rocket attacks, threatening the lives of millions of Israelis—Jewish and Arab citizens alike.
The United States must firmly stand with our ally Israel in the face of these terrorist attacks, and the Biden Administration must vocally support Israel’s inherent right to defend itself.
By launching rockets from within densely populated civilian areas and in targeting civilian locations, PIJ commits multiple war crimes each time it fires a rocket. Its aim is simple: annihilate Israel and the Jewish people. This renewed violence threatens not only America’s ally but also wider peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.
The Biden Administration should allow Israel the freedom of action to appropriately address the PIJ threat and deter other Iranian proxies from further action. President Biden himself has said that US-Israel alliance must remain ‘ironclad.’ If his own words are to mean anything at all, it’s high time that he stand up for Israel when it matters most.
