At Veterans on Duty, Memorial Day is not just another date on the calendar. It’s a time to reflect on the real meaning of sacrifice—and to recognize the men and women who gave their lives so the rest of us could carry forward the cause of freedom.
Since the Revolutionary War, more than one million Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this republic. Every one of us owes them a debt not just of gratitude, but of reverence—for laying down their lives so we could live free.
As veterans, and as Americans, we are guided by more than duty—we are guided by their memory. Everything we do is grounded in the understanding that we walk in the footsteps of those who never came home. Their sacrifice shapes how we live, lead, and serve our country today. We honor them not just in words, but in how we preserve the values they died to protect.
So this Memorial Day, we ask you to pause and remember why this day exists. Say their names. Tell their stories. Attend a local ceremony. Visit a grave. Reach out to a Gold Star family. But, above all, live in a way that honors their sacrifice—not just today, but every day.
Their legacy is our responsibility. We must never take it for granted.
