Dear Friends,
Memorial Day challenges us all to do one thing: remember. This day is about the selfless men and women who gave their lives in service to this nation so that we could live ours.
Today, we honor sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors, all of whom had dreams that went beyond the battlefield. They had careers, families, and futures they never got to see. These brave souls chose to set all of that aside so that we wouldn’t have to.
Over one million Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this nation. From the Battle of Bunker Hill to the beaches of Normandy, every generation in every corner of the world has answered the call and carried the flag. Most recently, we were reminded of that enduring truth when American service members gave their lives during Operation Epic Fury. We are here because they made that choice.
On this day, we remember that behind every fallen hero is a family that’s never stopped carrying their legacy. We extend our deepest condolences to all of those who have lost a loved one while serving in the United States Armed Forces. While we may never understand your grief, know that our prayers are with you. We are forever grateful for the price your family has paid for our freedom.
At 3:00 PM local time, Americans across the country are asked to observe the National Moment of Remembrance — one minute of silence for those who gave everything. We ask that you stand with Veterans On Duty and observe this moment. Remember a name, a face, and a story. In that minute, millions of Americans will stand together, united by gratitude for those who have made it possible.
