Last week’s capture of Nicolás Maduro, an illegitimate dictator aligned with adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran, marks a significant step toward justice and the long-awaited restoration of democracy in Venezuela after decades of socialist rule under the Chavista regime.
This decisive action has put authoritarian regimes around the world on notice. From Cuba to Iran, dictators now face renewed uncertainty in the presence of American resolve. Despite the objections of isolationist critics, history consistently demonstrates that when the United States engages with purpose, our national security is strengthened, our interests are protected, and our adversaries are diminished.
Operation Absolute Resolve was not merely the culmination of months of careful planning by our military and special operations forces. It was a clear demonstration of the unmatched capabilities that only the United States possesses, capabilities that keep our warfighters at the tactical edge and prepared to defend the nation against any threat.
As we look ahead to a potential transition in Venezuela, continued unrest in Iran, and renewed calls for democracy in Cuba, the United States has delivered a powerful message to those who stand for freedom. We will act in their defense, reinforcing both their cause and their courage.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the warfighters of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Delta Force, and all the men and women in uniform who made this operation an overwhelming strategic success. America thanks you for your service.
