Statement from VOD Board Member Garrett Exner on the Threat of Islamic Terrorism in Nigeria.

Garrett Exner, Veterans On Duty Board Member and former U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Officer, issued the following statement on the growing threat of Islamic terrorism in Nigeria, as reported on in The New York Times today:

“Islamic extremism is once again on the march—and the world cannot afford to look away. The surge of terrorist violence in Nigeria and across the Sahel is not a distant problem – innocent Nigerians are being murdered everyday by Islamic extremists; it’s a direct threat to global stability and U.S. national security.

Veterans On Duty supports President Trump and the Pentagon’s efforts to address this threat and destroy the terrorist elements currently wreaking destruction across Nigeria and the Sahel. The hard lessons of September 11, the Beirut barracks bombing that killed hundreds of U.S. Marines, and countless other acts of terror, have taught us what happens when we ignore the rise of radical terror. We must not repeat those mistakes.

America’s leaders and armed forces must stay vigilant and unyielding in confronting the expanding network of Islamist terror—before its reach extends to our shores and endangers the freedom of our allies and partners around the world.”
