Statement from VOD Executive Director Hooff Cooksey on the End of the Government Shutdown

Hooff Cooksey, Executive Director of Veterans On Duty and Officer in the United States Navy Reserves, issued the following statement on the end of the government shutdown:

“Last night, President Trump signed a bipartisan funding bill that will allow Congress to resume work on the pressing challenges facing our nation, ensure our troops are paid, and guarantee that America’s defense remains uncompromised.

However, this legislation is only a temporary fix. The men and women who defend our nation—and the veterans who have already borne the burden of service—deserve a long-term solution that provides certainty and stability beyond January.

Congress must not allow funding for our military, vital defense programs, or our veterans to once again be jeopardized by partisan gridlock. Veterans On Duty strongly urges lawmakers to put our country, and those who protect it, first by moving swiftly to secure full federal funding for the remainder of fiscal year 2026.”
