Dear Friends,
This week, reports emerged that negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran could include discussions about the continuation of nuclear enrichment for non-weapons purposes and that there could be a potential withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria by mid-June.
As the Trump Administration does its due diligence about the status of U.S. engagement in the Middle East broadly and more specifically about relations with countries like Syria and Iran, it’s important for negotiators to remember the President’s motto: America First.
Putting America First means protecting our citizens and strategic interests around the globe, and preserving the military’s ability to eliminate our enemies wherever they may be. Unfortunately, those enemies are numerous and not always affiliated with a nation state, and most importantly, their abilities or willingness to strike should not be underestimated.
Make no mistake: terrorists in Syria and the regime in Tehran wish to harm Americans. While we believe policy should be continuously evaluated to best protect America’s vital interests, we certainly hope that Washington makes decisions that give those who wear the uniform the ability to stay in the fight and, ultimately, protect Americans.
