Dear Friends,
Amid the ongoing strikes in Iran, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) announced a 7% increase in defense spending – reminding us of their continuous efforts to challenge our resolve in the Indo-Pacific. Publicly, the Chinese Ministry of Defense said the vote will scale their defense budget to a total $277 billion, however, we know the aggregate classified number is probably much higher.
China is no stranger to voting to increase its defense spending annually. However, this year’s increase is particularly interesting, considering the likelihood the CCP could lose its strongest ally in the Middle East – curbing its access to another authoritarian regime.
In light of this, we should not overestimate China by itself. At the end of the day their goal is self preservation, not global leadership through its “allies.” Otherwise, we would see the Chinese do more than throw a stern word at President Trump’s decision to begin combat operations in Iran.
Just as the CCP needs to scale its regional force posture; we need to continue to increase our defense budget to maintain our global presence. This aggressive increase is a firm indication that President Trump is right for calling for a $1.5 trillion dollar defense budget. The proposed increase would appropriate adequate funding for Indo-Pacific Command, enabling immediate investment to expand and speed the manufacturing of shipbuilding and missile defense systems.
As combat operations continue in the Middle East, we’re beyond thankful for each U.S. service member who has chosen tirelessly to boldly go, despite the imminent danger. Their bravery is carving out the future for our sons and daughters, and a more peaceful world. Each and every one of them remains in our thoughts and prayers.
